The Pledge for a Sustainable Community

As part of Shape Property Management Corp., Lougheed is proud to have taken the Pledge for a Sustainable Community! We are committed to and taking steps towards reducing our environmental footprint.

The City of Burnaby awarded Lougheed a 2013 Environmental Star for Business Stewardship for their record of achievement in sustainability and energy conservation in the operation of the shopping centre. These environmental awards are a significant annual honour that the City of Burnaby bestows to recognize groups and individuals who make an important contribution to environmental sustainability in Burnaby, and who assist in ensuring Burnaby continues to be a leader in environmental conservation. More details about this award program can be found attached and on the City of Burnaby website.

Lougheed is more than just a place to shop.  It is a landmark within the city of Burnaby and the Tri-Cities area and a valuable contributor to the growth and improvement of our community.

The management and staff of Lougheed strive to create a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible shopping experience for our residents and guests.  And our achievement of Environmental Certification, under the BOMA BESTprogram, is testimony to our commitment to sustainability.

We’ve taken steps to decrease Lougheed’s environmental footprint by focusing on:  Energy & Water Conservation, Waste Reduction & Recycling, Transportation Alternatives, and Sustainable Purchasing.

It is our goal to reduce our energy consumption by 10% over the next 5 years and 15% over the next 10 years. We’ve already taken steps towards this goal by changing to more efficient lighting options and upgrading many of our building systems to more efficient alternatives.

Lougheed also has an aggressive waste diversion target of 50% and a water reduction target of 5% over the next 5 years and 10% over the next 10 years.  In an effort to reach these goals, we’ve instituted strict construction waste policies and we’ve continued to investigate and implement new recycling opportunities for the shopping centre.
